About Ms. Brashears -
This will be Ms. Brashears' second year at Esperanza and she is very excited to be teaching 5th grade again. Ms. Brashears is an Arizona Native. She grew up with horses and now enjoys four of her own. But Ms. Brashears' horses aren't full size-they're miniature! Her smallest horse (pictured to the left) is only 25 1/2 inches tall; that's the size of most large dogs! When she isn't showing her horses Ms. Brashears enjoys reading, training her pet micro-mini pig, watching documentaries, and rollerskating (she's even on a skating team!). She loves teaching and wants to do everything she can to help her students.

In the 5th grade at Esperanza, Ms. Brashears teaches math and science. When asked what their favorite subject is many students will answer recess or lunch-but not if you're in math with Ms. Brashears! She uses a hands-on approach when it comes to learning math, meaning her students are involved in productive group discussion, manipulatives, and new ways to relate math to real life-not just learning it because school says its important. Her students leave her class with a deep understanding and love of math.
5th grade science at Esperanza is a blast! The Esperanza 5th grade students will learn about the planets and space, simple machines, chemistry, and the human body. Experiments are a common sight in science; from making different chemical compounds, to dissecting an owl pellet, creating simple machines, and becoming an intergalactic travel agent, 5th grade science is always a year to remember.
